Entertaiment means amusement, fun, or enjoyment. Examples of entertainment include watching movies or TV shows; listening to music; playing games such as video or board games; reading novels, short stories, magazines, or poetry; and engaging in sports activities, all of which provide relaxation and pleasure. Entertainment can be adapted to any scale, from a private entertainment chosen by an individual, to banquets and parties for groups of any size; to performances intended for thousands. The word is derived from the Latin intertenere, and its Indo-European root, ten, meaning to stretch. Its meaning continues to evolve and morph in a variety of ways.
